I have a few Sabal species grown from seed. Sabal 'Birmingham' has out paced Sabal palmetto and two Sabal minor (North Carolina & Louisiana). The 'Birmingham' is roughly twice the size of the others. This seems to hold true, the stories of it being the quickest of the Sabal palms. Any other Sabal growers out there?

    Cheers, LPN.

Here's a photo showing Sabal 'Birmingham' on the far right.
    Left to right
    Sabal minor 'Louisiana'
    Sabal minor 'North Carolina'
    Sabal palmetto
    Sabal 'Birmingham'

Clearly the 'Birmingham' is larger and all where germinated at the same time.

    How old are the seedlings

    Barry,
    How old are they?
Thne birmingham looks great. I have read very positive articles of birmingham growth rates and hardiness.
Do you have a seed source?

    Hi Brian ...

I'm not exactly sure how old these seedlings are. If memory serves me, I got them all from Banana Joe on Saltspring Island. All these seedlings looked indentical last year.

    Cheers, LPN.
