What is this small deciduous tree?

Hi,
We saw this sapling growing at the edge of a park, and neither one of us has any idea what it is. Our id guides did not help, and we give up.

It is only about 30" tall with small, compound, toothed leaves. Most of the deets you can see from the photos.

Maybe a hackberry? Celtis sp.

 

Well that must be it! There is a larger hackberry on the other side of the park, but large hackberries are easy to id. We never really paid attention to their fledglings.

We were thrown off by what looked like compound leaves to us, the "stems" are just young growth.
