Hey @AlainK i check a couple websites for poisonous plants to dogs typically before I purchase anything. Some plants are poisonous but only if they eat or chew the bark like you say. But a couple such as wisteria from what I’ve read says the seeds and flowers basically all parts are very toxic. My dog drinks any water so I can see her getting seeds in the area plus she is 16 years old so not likely to fight anything off, although she doesn’t eat any of my plants except carrots and any ornamental grass I’ve ever had.

The carrot thing is hilarious really. Every year we go through this and my partner says I cannot get mad at her cause she’s a senior!

Ohhh, such a lovely little dog... ;°D

So cute. I understand why you are so careful about what's in your garden.

@AlainK thanks so much I love her to pieces had her since a pup she’s managed to be a large part of my children lives and now my 3 grandchildren!!
i love how you have such gorgeous maples under such lovely larger in ground trees they are stunning. I need to find better ways to provide shade for some of my maples but I loathe putting anything in ground here and I recently added artificial grass to my space so Pots it will be. In my city any tree even on private property is protected if the truck is 8” in diameter at 3’ or 4’ high and it’s a freaking horrible thing to deal with, I won’t even get started it’s so bad and ignorant. I used a shade cloth in one section last year it was very helpful but that would make my front yard look very icky.

    I do understand.

One of my sons has a dog, "Masto" (because he's big and strong). I sometimes wonder how he will take it when Masto dies, because dogs can't live a hundred years old...

My parents have had dogs over many years and their garden is almost entirely bounded by yew hedges, they have some azaleas and a large wisteria. No problems ever. I think dogs are not the most intelligent animals but seem to be able to tell if a plant is good to eat or not.

I think this is right - my three are loveable but - to be honest - exceedingly stupid creatures (including the one in my profile picture who would eat stones and broken glass if I didn't take them out of his mouth in time) but I have a wisteria that's currently flowering and around 100 lily bulbs in my garden that they've never sniffed at: they'd much rather be chasing one another and rolling on the occasional unfortunate earthworm that finds itself above ground...

There's also a honeysuckle in the mess around the blackbird's nest. It's a seedling I took from a nearby forest, yellow flowers, but fragant.

My dog eats decorative cabbage and kale. It’s a tradition of mine to replace summer annuals with cabbage and kale but I can’t do it in my backyard where the dog can reach.

And since people were talking about wisteria yesterday, here's mine with more flowers than it's ever had before. When I lived in Japan I used to cycle to work every day, and there was a little triangle of empty space outside someone's house between their garden wall and the road. Only about 1 ft by 1 ft, it was no real use for anything and in any other country it would have just been left empty, but someone had grown a tiny wisteria as a standard tree in that space that was full of beautiful flowers every year. The first thing I did when I finally bought my house was get my own standard wisteria in memory of that little tree.

it was odd to me as well, shes usually very energetic. I just took her out for a walk and she gets all grump and tired after it. Sad that age is starting to show in her
