It does look like it'll be a fun one: looking forward to it getting a little bigger, just to make room for more of those leaves by the time the colour turn comes.

(Haha, my little gardening assistants give all the new arrivals a good inspection. Blue Moon clearly passed muster!)

Some more, although this year they have less color because since they sprouted there has not been a single sunny day.

Its hot there! nearly 90F every day, high humidity! I can see he keeps the maples in an area with little to no sunlight

Maples are understory trees, and in that area as much shade as possible is needed. People on the forum from Spain had over 100°c last year for several days and how they kept their trees alive is beyond me. But they did and they looked so good in the circumstances.

These 3 are interesting seedlings germinated spring 2020, the first one looks similar to Trompenberg, the second one is a strong upright red dissectum, and the third has tightly overlapping leaves.

My reds are among those taking a little longer to leaf out than the others. Here are some of the stragglers:

Beni Otake, Bloodgood, Crimson Princes, Hanabi no Mai:

Kin Pai, Ornatum, Omureyama, 'mystery meat' tree (this forum guessed Oridono Nishiki)

Dangerous words.... but when they all look as lovely and healthy as yours, how can you resist? Love group shots like this: it's just a colourful patch of happiness right there in the garden isn't it?

The trick for hotter climates is water. You have to water the trees a lot! I give them a deep watering every 2 days like clockwork when the temps are over 90° F (it regularly gets over 100° F here) Because you are watering so much you need fast draining soil but it also needs to hold some moisture and not completely dry out.

I use a soil mix of:
    3 parts turface
3 parts pine bark (I use Reptibark)
    1 part pine bark compost
    1 part pumice

I don’t know how much it helps but I also use mycorrhiza when planting and once a year thereafter. Roots are important in this climate! I also don’t fertilize. I plan to top dress with compost once the trees are more adapted.

Most maples do fine with enough time, shade, and water. There are a few that will not make it here or take longer to adapt. My snake bark maple did not survive. I’m still experimenting with Autumn Moon and Aureum, they tend to burn easier but are slowly adapting it seems. This year will be the test.

Most of my trees are getting 3-4 hours of morning-mid day sun. They are all fully shaded after 4pm or so.

If you’re ordering trees from a cooler climate then you should expect them to be shocked and take a year to adapt. A lot of mine dropped leaves when they arrived here but are doing fine now.

Every year I'm surprised at how far behind everyone else I am with my maples leafing out, but I shouldn't be I suppose. But I always am .. lol.
So here a few this morning at 6°c in my garden.

Sorry to hear that Lisa, these rogue conditions are what we had over here last year. Unfortunately there's nothing you can do but hope your trees are hardy enough. If they are outside all year round then they should be.
Have a look at @Margot posting yesterday on Virtual garden tour 2022. Virtual Garden Tour 2022

Now here's a surprise, it was forecast rain this morning, but the sun is shining and everything is dry and getting warmer. 20°c forecast for Easter weekend as well. So that probably means snow... lol.
Anyway, I have a few more that have started today.
