Wow, that Jerre Schwartz is spectacular! I've managed now to lug all the pots outside and got the last planting done today, none too soon. Took a few more shots, mostly today. These are mostly the same suspects, but lots of other maples, including JMs, are now right on the edge.

Ladybirds acting unladylike. Or are the harlequin ladybirds, that eat leaves? There are plenty of aphids around, that's for sure.

    A. morifolium, mostly destroyed by a young buck. It was ringed, so no choice but to cut.

Here we go, I think I can say Spring is now on the way here in Hampshire.
My Katsura is leafing out. It's always the first.

@dicky5ash : some of the seeds you sent me and that I planted in the spring of 2021. These ones are from the same bag lablelled "10", so I suppose they're from the same tree.

I've just repotted them and added some pellets against slugs because one of them was already eaten the next morning by a small grey slimy thing.

As usual, the seedlings show a lot of differences, from one that is green to the bigger one that looks a bit like a 'Trompenburg' leafing out.

Thanks again, I hope they'll thrive. When it's possible again without all the hassle of customs, etc, I'll be glad to send you some of mine.

    acerp-momoiro_220329a.jpg acerp-redwine_220329a.jpg acerp-div-009_220329a.jpg

I'm not worried for those that haven't budded out yet, but some have very tender leaves, like this 'Tsuma gaki'. I hope the coming frosts, and the snow, won't be too hard on them...

Snow! First I've heard that. So far it doesn't look like deep frosts, but it may well be...

Each time I see "div009" I like it more. I think it needs a better evaluation name, and you should propagate it as soon as it's big enough.

    I don't think there's an 'Alain' yet!

I found yet another one that for the moment looks a bit similar. It's got short internodes, but that doesn't mean much, it's only in its second year :

    acerp-div-017_220329a.jpg

It's "div017" for now, but because of my inflated ego I might call it "Mr. K.'s Mystery" one day... <LOL>

It's always nice to name something after a son, mother, friend etc, too. But seeing "Mr. K" above I think you can make a marketing coup by naming it Acer 'Special K', like the cereal. You'll sell a million before losing your socks in the lawsuit! haha.

Good morning @Castor, that would be very early for a First Ghost where I live, but obviously not in Georgia. Very pretty leaves indeed.

I assume being in a greenhouse is the reason my First Ghost is ahead in Somerset then.

Yes I've been keeping my eye on frost reports, none forecast for here but I'll still err on the side of caution I think.

Ahhh great - they look interesting.. No 10 packet was a deeply divided palmatum - those seedlings do look similar to Trompenberg I agree! Did you have any luck with any of the other packets (japonicum or Sieboldianum)?
