The sun is out this afternoon and so are a few of my trees. Koto hime, Karusagawa x2 and Vitifolium. They beat Katsura this year.......
Looking good! Was in the garden myself today; 'Katsura', 'Kiyohime' and some other earlies are just breaking the buds open, hopefully have some worth photographing this coming week.
Stunning colours this year indeed! I hope mine is as beautiful.... not long to wait now... Also, mine is a similar wide shape and 20+ years old, not so large.
I've been enjoying the pictures! Somehow stopped getting updates on the thread. It looks like things are ripping along, expecting some frost here tonight but doesn't look serious. Anyway, here are some spring pictures taken over the last few days. A. sikkimense coming into leaf, but many of the seedlings died over winter; A duck waiting to cross the street in central Paris; A. pensylvanicum; flowers coming in on A. pictum (2); A. tataricum ssp ginnala 'Yama zakura'; A. diabolicum seedling (diabolicum is always very early); cows (well, steer really); A. barbinerve (2), seems much earlier than closely related A. argutum, but is pretty tough so far. Just planted out this year.
Katsura and Orange Dream. The spots in the background are not hail stones but the petals of a Punus they're under : The Prunus protected them from the sand from the sahara, not this seedling and these pots : There was a queue at the car-wash station, and it was funny to see almost all the cars (including mine) covered with a thin blanket of orange-pink sand. So I got back home and used the hose.
Well....... Things are starting to move alone here. Repot season on full blast right now. At least before the (s) word come again. Found these guys loving my 'Oridono Nishiki' and 'Hippy Fin Mo'. Luckily no root damage as far as I could tell.

wow, I went through this whole thread, beautiful pics! Out here in Chilliwack BC we are still a couple of weeks behind with lower then normal seasonal temps. and no sign of sunshine other then a few moments here and there. Our weather pattern appears that it will finally change over late next week ( 24 - 25) with an extended high pressure to bring the sun and expedite the sleepy maples. Looking forward to another year of morning java along with photo's and great insights from all of the members here on the forum Otto
Good afternoon Otto, looks like you have the same weather pattern as I have here in the UK at the moment. Spring arrives next week looking at forecasts and then, as you say, looking forward to all the photos etc etc from members of the forum.
On some of them, you can spot the orange sand from the Sahara that has gathered down the veins or on the leaves. 'Koto hime', the second photo is blurred but you can have an idea of the many flowers it has : 'Jerre Schwartz', 'Tama hime', and 'Little Princess' which is a bit late this year, probably because I repotted it as the buds were opening : Many others (Trompenburg, Starfish, Rainbow, Tsuma gaki, etc.) are still waiting... It seems the small-leaved ones ('hime' series) are always among the earliest, along with Katsura and O. Dream.
No sand, no leaves ? ^_^ I sympathize... ;-) Actually, it rain a bit yesterday morning, the photos I've posted are all "after the rain". Can you imagine ? The teacher mentioned above told us that the sand amounted to about 100-200 Kilos per hectare, which is exceptional.
I wish i could experience european/eastern NA weather. rain and moisture = life. im jealous of you all!
