One strange plant in my garden was revealed to be a dangerous intruder and I believe that this one, although not the same plant at all, must be another one. It is quite low and about about 2 feet across. and shows no signs of producing any sort of flower Any ideas?

    Possibly Digitalis purpurea...common name Foxglove.
It is biennial...leaves this year,. Next year flowers ...then it dies.

Agree with Silver surfer. This one is a pretty weed, and I always leave few in the wild areas of our yard. Below are few pictures of first year rosettes. They can last and bloom for 4-5 years if you promptly remove spent flower stalks.

Thanks folks (in previous decades I'd have said "guys" but my daughters would beat me up if I proceeded on such a basis today). So it will stay. It's in an inappropriate spot but surely is safely transplantable over the winter).

If you let it flower and set seeds, you will be pulling out seedlings for the next 40 years, at least.

Within 40 years I'll be pushing up daisies not pulling up foxglove.

But this plant is 3' from leaf tip to diametrically opposite leaf tip which seems to occupy a lot of garden space for one mere flower stalk. .
