Phew! I went on holiday for a few days and was so worried about the maples in the London heat... arrived home this afternoon (exhausted!) and was delighted to see that no-one seems to have suffered while I was away. To the contrary, quite a few are either putting out some amazing new growth or are looking gorgeous in general (looking at you, Amber Ghost!)

Thanks @maf I like the cultivar..here are my other two. The second one is about 8ft or so but this year the lower branches are a bit barron. I think this is because of its highly shaded location amongst other trees.. I might try to open it up a bit

All this prolonged wet weather in the U.K. seems to have helped Palmatum cultivars through the summer, so far, however not the case for some of my Japonicum..eg Meigetsu, Vitifolium and Jordan have brown edges to the leaves..and some brown spots..definitely not because the pots have dried out..and not because of location..I wonder if it’s because they have been constantly wet with the rain.. jordan seems to be worst hit..it was leaf perfect last year. I would be interested to know if anyone else has found this.. The only exceptions are a couple of aconitifoliums and Attaryi that are spot on..

See photo number 6, amazing colours on the Rectlatum this year.

photo 13 filigree- it has now developed into a perfect round mound about 4 feet across, was oblong previously..can’t get a good photo from the side. Emma (12) is another that seems to have a similar leaf form to filigree..but great colours

The rain ended, the sun came out, and my garden was a very happy garden (and now, twenty minutes later, it's bucketing it down again. Never change, British summer!)

Aww, thank you, D -- I'm really happy to hear that! That's the purpose of this thread after all, and I definitely feel the same way whenever someone shares their pics (especially after a long day - our trees are so relaxing sometimes, aren't they? That's how we know they're doing their job!)

    They're here too !
They seem to particularly appreciate my Acer cappadocicum, but I noticed today that they like my Wisteria too.
I've never seen any "at work".
Not so much harm done, I'd leave them alone anyway.

Oh yes, I don't worry about the damage - they will be left alone here too! At least they have the decency to make nice and pretty holes in the leaves and seem to generally avoid the mid-rib... I wish the more annoying insects and caterpillars were so considerate.

They're artists of their sort, yes ;-)

The cuts are very clean and show no signs of disease, or rot, or anything.

Finally! My ORANGE DREAM is happy, he was leaf scorched when arrived and pot bound. I slip potted him and put him in the shadiest spot. I had to cover the soil with thick mulch (large chips) to keep the critters out and now he seems to be so happy!!! Hurray!!!

Finally got some much needed rain here this week. It's been a hot dry summer. Most of the JM's are OK but a few are looking stressed and I lost three: Shin Deshojo, Kagiri Nishiki and Oridono Nishiki. Took a few random shots...

Every year, there's a hot-air balloon fiesta in our city.

Two days ago, quite a few hot-air balloons flew over our house.
I quickly took some snaps, as I thought it would be interesting to see some maples with some air balloons in the sky (I only managed to get only 5 in the same shot, there was about 20 I think in the sky)

In the photos, the maples are:
    - Orangeola (the small one)
    - Sango Kaku (bright orange/red at the moment, that's quite insane)
    - Acer Palmatum (no specific cultivar, was a 40cm tall seedling when we bought at from the Japanese Garden in Cornwall)

    Thank you Lisa!
We finished it in April after a long time thinking how to do it because of foxes coming every day in our garden and digging up everything.
Now we just need to wait for things to grow (in particular the green cover) :-). In the meantime I keep buying maple trees ;)

    Very nice @ChrisUk !!
That orange/red is absolutely gorgeous. I'd also think about starting a side gig on launching air balloons ;)
