Centre is 'Oriental Mystery', left is 'Red Pygmy', right is 'Kinran' and in the background is a green dissectum.

What a great combo with the green dissectum M. Makes the reds really pop.

Good morning everyone! Not yet 5 a.m. here as we start another smoky day.

Remember the little Sango Kaku that got badly wounded and I was sure it wouldn't make it? Well, despite the voracious heat we've had here I took this photo last night to show how quickly it has managed to bounce back. It has been kept out of the sun and gets moderately watered every day. Once the temperatures decide to drop a little more, I can cut the watering back.

I'm not sure who is more pleased. The little Sango Kaku, or me!

Mine has full sun 11-1 and dappled light afterwards, full sun close to the open ocean is not like full sun inland though.

I have a couple of Aureum’s because I love the cultivar so much.. one is about 5 foot tall the other 4 foot..both are bare of leaves on the lower half of the tree..some years I get a few new mini branches with leaves but they seem to die off by Autumn.. top half nice and healthy.. only in dappled sun..hence not anywhere near as colourful as yours, they are amazing

Actually I had to remove about a dozen lower branches recently and have pretty weak growth on a few more low ones.
Overall, only about half the density of last year's canopy.

These pics from end of May right after removal of dead branches.

Thank you Keith, what a week you had last week. Hope you and your loved ones (including your maples) are okay!! We were in the high 30s earlier this week but been raining for a couple of days now so my maples are loving it.

Same for me, I liked it ever since getting my pocket maple book some years ago. Drop Hippopottering an email, that's what I did.
