Acer palmatum 'Olsen's Frosted Strawberry'

Fully frosty now, with great strawberry colour on that new growth:

 

My one today, same as in the Uncle Ghost thread also showing what effect different amounts of light can make.

 

I think this is my first time posting the one.

 

This is the colour here at this time of year:

I think this cultivar is getting the most postings on the forum. Not surprising IMO. What a wonderful maple.

 

Turns out I'm very jealous of @D97x7 's Olsen's Frosted and Uncle Ghost colouring, so I've moved mine to try and get them into a bit more sun in the hopes they'll follow suit. Olsen's Frosted Strawberry up top, Uncle Ghost down below:

 

It's all swings and roundabouts Xi, I think your Peaches and Cream looks much better than mine for example.

 

Aww, thank you! Yes, it's always going to be the case that we see someone else's and think 'argh, why doesn't mine look like that??'. Next year you'll have a stunning P&C and my Olsen's will be pink, I'm sure of it!

What's a botanical name for a bonkers year!!!?? Lol. Certainly brightens up a Summer garden though N. Looks wonderful.

 

Both Olsen's Frosted Strawberry (above) and Uncle Ghost (below) are super pink at the tips now:

 

I was asked the other day what I preferred between Olsen's Frosted Strawberry and Higasayama. Tbh I think OFS wins...

 

Oooh, that's a tough question! I've gotten it into my head somehow that Higasayama can be quite delicate at times and hard to take care of: the OFS seems to be quite user-friendly so that's always a plus!

 

I agree Xi and for that reason alone I would recommend it.

 

4th July 2021 and after the lovely photos from Xi and N, I thought I would add my Olsen's Frosted Strawberry from moments ago.

Month old lurker, first time poster. First picture shows the color in full shade of my OFS purchased 3 weeks ago. It has been a 5 days now in full sun and it is starting to change colors.

Thank you Acerholic. I know we have never met before but you are the primary reason I am getting really into this JM collection. I read through the entirety of the “Cheering ourselves up with Maples” thread. Took me a good 3 weeks or so lol. In addition to the OFS, i purchased 5 others. Amber Ghost, Skeeter’s Broom, Garnet, Hana Matoi and Ukigumo

 

Good afternoon J @Nas, that was very nice to hear and I'm so glad that you have found this wonderful hobby. I do hope though that I don't get the blame when tne hobby becomes an obsession, Lol.
The Cheering ourselves up with maples thread has brought so many new members to the forum and to hear you ploughed through 223 pages is amazing. I myself go back through it from time to time, as there are so many wonderful photos to drool over.
All your new acquisitions are lovely, so please do add them to that thread, as so many view it every day.

Such a funny look at the moment, given that the new growth comprises about half of the tree at the moment. Looks just like someone stuck half a maple on top of a completely different maple:

 

Don't you just love it when this happens !!

 

They are brilliant little trees, maples, aren't they? Who needs flowers when you've got this!
