I think I've had this for 2 year now. It seem to be growing pretty well. Now I notice I have a thing for these 'Higasa Yama' variegated types. But here is 'Ikandi'!
I had this one in my basket from a supplier called Lotta plants in Europe and was looking forward to receiving it, but then I had an email from them saying they were no longer in the maple supply businesses, so missed out on this special tree. I think D @LoverOfMaples photos shows why it is one that draws you to it every time you get a glimpse of those special salmon and green leaves.
Must admit these have been " The must have plant " this past two seasons here in the UK why i can't really say ?? Finally managed to see one in the flesh so to speak two weeks ago when visiting Pat at Hippo pottering , she managed to get a few from abroad which were sold on to a few folk in the UK who in turn posted early spring pictures of them and to be honest they were very under whelming to say the least , hardly any of the coloured markings you would expect to see , think this cultivar is going to be one of those that shows well one season then has a rest the next ?? Even the one Pat had retained for ground planting said it's just akin to a Higasa yama with some pink striping. Maybe they will improve given time over the years ? On another note i had previously been at Pack horse farm nursery on the same day and managed to buy a lovely aged ground grown Higasa yama , have been trying to get a nice one now for years.
Just picked this one up. I love variegation and the leaves are larger than Higasa Yama or at least the one I compared it to.
