Very nice @wind-borne. Did you prune it this way or is this the natural habitat?

Brilliant G, especially the first photo, it looks like arms coming from everywhere with those fallen branches behind.
I know you said with the weight of the fog residue, but your Beni Otake looks so light and airy. I don't think you can get a better looking specimen. It's beautiful.

I've kept it under control with careful pruning Kurt. It's only 10 ft (3.4 mtrs) tall.

Say no more... I love upright maples, so I'm probably going to get one or two.

Haven't done any pruning, bought as 5' plant with a pencil thin trunk for $15.
I'm thinking will grow more upright as trunk thickens, about 2' taller in winter when leafless but is in constant motion if you even breathe on it when filled in.

Acer palmatum 'Beni otake' without the weight of water

Here are two seedlings, I already posted about the first one. I repotted it and thought it would go green, on the contrary, the leaves are showing even more red. It's in full sun and the soil is pretty acidic.

I put it next to another one that has deep red colours to show the difference, both of them being from seed, none of them are "named", in my files they're listed as "acerp-div-004 and -012"

Perhaps it will pass the fourth year, or the fifth. Even if I'm not a "believer", as the old Gospel song goes, I won't be discouraged. This is the most fantastic version I've heard :

    Isn't that great ?...

Good morning, well, the month is racing by and I've already started the Chelsea chop around my garden. The rain and warmth has made everything grow crazily.
So here are a few in my garden at the start of transition into Summer colours.

    A. shirasawanum 'Sunny' seem to settling in and finally putting on new growth. The tree beside it was labeled A. Saccharum, I knew that wasn't true. I'm guessing it might be a shirasawanum due to the seeds are above the leaves.

Good morning, bit of a rush today as it's one of our grandaughters birthday and so we are having a family get together shortly.
So here are a few from my garden just moments ago. Had a shower of rain through the night, my maples enjoyed that. I've added 2 Murasaki Kiyohime's for M @maf as was asking about dwarf varieties on another thread.

Lots of rain yesterday - I took these in the evening when it stopped for a few minutes.

Had some new arrivals from Hippo this week (and on the day they arrived, I got a notification that they had Purple Ghost back in stock, so I'm having another arrival next week too. Life is hard....)
