I wonder if I'm supposed to recognize this. Right now it's just a whorl of skinny leaves with parallel edges and wiggly edges. It's at the apartment building with lots of interesting plants.

While looking for something with ruffled edges on my other query, I came across Hosta 'Curly Fries', which I think looks like a better match.
I think your right Wendy, Curly Fries is definitely a closer match. I don't have that one so cannot compare. Agree with Margot, aren't they great names !!
I'm leaning towards that being 'Hacksaw'. 'Curly Fries has reddish petioles on the bottom half, which I don't see in this picture. They're close, flowers will end up telling the difference. Check the Hosta Library or my comparison routine and scroll down to the bottom of the 2 entries and compare the flowers. If you're going to use the comparison, you get to the wanted selection much faster by starting to type the name in the respective search bar, beats scrolling...
@Pieter, thank you! 'Curly Fries', blooms midsummer, lavender flowers marked with white on scapes 40cm. 'Hacksaw' (does not win the cute names award), blooms late season (is that the same as mid-summer??), lavender flowers also marked with white, around 18cm or a bit taller. Photo shows flower facing up more, but is that just for the photos, or is that really a distinction? I'll see if I can remember to keep checking. I was just happy to know it's a hosta (thanks, @Acerholic). And I wonder where I saw it online recently.
Wendy, these pictures truly tell the story: definitely 'Curly Fries'. The developing scapes have a decided red blush to them and you can now see the blush at the bottom of the leaves, both very much in line with 'Curly Fries' characteristics.
