  3. Elmore,

    Ref: 'Watnong'

Does this tree stay mostly green in spring and Summer?

I'm looking for dissectum that not the typical red (e.g., Crimson Queen) or a green.
Someone told me this is like a hybrid color in spring and Summer, is that accurate?

    Thanks

    Dear Elmore,

Do you have 'Watnong' available for sale in liners or gallons? I'm always on the lookout for unusual dissectums.

    Thanks,

For a dissectum with a refreashingly different color through the seasons try 'Edgewood's Golden'.

I am afraid not. I just have one plant. Maybe someday soon I will propagate this cultivar.

    Described as:

"Bright red young leaves becoming pink red over green through out the summer and changing to scarlet in the fall. Mounded habit reaching 5-10 ft."

I love the look of this tree! Very lovely and so different! Pics:

These are pictures of A.P. 'Watnong' taken in Oct 2008 at Watnong Gardens. This is the original plant as I understand.

My little watnong did have a blush of reddish tones even in a fairly shady location through a portion of the summer. I lump it in with Baldsmith and Chantilly lace as far as coloration, but I think it may be a bit different from those two. The leaves of all three are distinct however.

This is my 5/6-year old Watnong in spring. A strong grower and colorful throughout the growing season.

Here an update on my Watnong five years down the road and now planted in the ground. Its very colorful but it will take some more time to develop a nice shape.

@MapleMO, good evening M. A five year process that came out good!!!
Now the trunk will thicken as it's in the ground and give more balance to your lovely Watnong.
Great photos, even some rain !!

My Watnong this spring. It is constantly changing colours throughout the seasons. I like the pink and green it is currently showing. It has some dieback from last years late new growth and hard winter frost as do many others this year.
