You can sometimes find an "interesting" seedling, sometimes a kind of hybrid if there are other cultivars around, but it's never totally true to the type and very rare.

Home Depot sent me a semi-nasty email that if I didn't use their credit card soon they would drastically reduce my credit line. Plus they sent me a $5 coupon, so I stopped in this morning before work to buy something small. Bought a Blue Rug juniper and somehow this Seiryu followed me home as well.

    Cheers!!

You're lucky that HD (which I refer to as the House of Pot, think about that for a second) even sells Japanese maples. I've never seen anything remotely that nice here in B.C.

Yes, my local House of Pot actually has a pretty good nursery department. I have a purchased a few maples from them and they have all been healthy and pretty cheap. Viridis (x2), Garnet, Tamukeyama, Autumn Moon (mismarked as a Viridis) and a Jiro Shidare (also mismarked as a generic A.P).

Excellent : as Alfred Shakespeare once said "A man that hath no Seiryu in his garden is fit for, etc."

Maybe that's why you get them inexpensively, they don't know what they're selling!

Good morning, well after the thunder storms and hail of yesterday,
it was good to wake to a lovely sunny day and the dawn chorus today. A bit chilly, only 4°C here, but not bad at all.
So here are a few I took just minutes ago that are colouring up nicely.
Coral magic, Tsuma beni, Nigrum, Orange dream, Shirazz and my favourite for today, Mystic Jewel.

Good morning D, the colours of Mystic jewel are so different from any other cultivar. I like it a lot and look forward to seeing yours throughout the seasons.

Good morning M, hope the weather is on the up for you today.
I will post updates on my Mystic Jewel through the seasons. I loved it this morning in the early light. As you say 'so different' to other cultivars.

Good morning P, now there's a question. IMO very little, but I feel that Gaki has more prominent red fingernails. But there are thoughts that it is the same maple and just named differently. (Synonym). I have yet to see evidence to support this, hence why my named tree Tsuma beni will stay as this 'for now'. It will go in the list below when I get confirmation.
Maple cultivar by another name OR (Synonym).#27 #458

    Good question though P.

I repotted my Moonrise yesterday because it came in a terracotta pot (plastic) as you most of you who know me like me trees to be universally planted in black squat containers, all labelled the same way.. Anyway I was a job a a half as I’d staked so many branches for reshaping etc, and I got really fiddly. The effort was worth it! It is growing like mad. The new shoots/leaves have got the lovely orange tinge to them.... ahhhh. So happy

Felice... in a class of its own it really is. The very top got frostbite but I’m hoping it’ll come back. The lower leaves are stunning though

Looks good Luke, it does remind me of a seedling in the middle of a Bamboo forest, lol.

Utsu Semi, which is new to me got offered to me at a reasonable price for its age otherwise I probably wouldn’t have given it a second thought. It has really bright, fresh green leaves. Maybe if someone reads this message and has experience with they can tell me a bit more about it.

    Anyway, a few pics

I know lol, I’m hoping they don’t have to stay in there too long, but at the same time, when I got the plant it was a mess. This work had to be done, and will be more than worth it.
