I have my Emerald Lace staked so as to create some twisting upright movement. Hopefully give it a bit more character.

Giving my Ukigumo’s a bit more light after a conversation with Derek yesterday. I want to keep them as white as possible, but release they do need a certain about of good light for them to grow.

Is there any maple that can beat a Beni Maiko for the brightest pink in Spring. Perhaps Deshojo!!!?

Personally I think Beni Maiko is superior to De Shojo, Shindeshojo and any other in that ‘Corallinum’ group. I think the clout is just better all year too. It certainly outshines it in Autumn in my garden.

Very distinctive growth and look, a real stunner in Spring. 63128A1E-ADEC-4FDB-928B-989E78DC2D8B.jpeg 7A5CF29B-5F1B-40C1-A352-03CF926AD64F.jpeg

Grown from a graft, reckon it’s 6 years old.
    It’s a good “grower”.
There’s a fair few where I have more than one of a cultivar and there can be a massive difference between vigour.
I’m adamant that vigour is as much down to the rootstock as the scion.
When you have a batch of seedlings, most struggle and some just grow.
I’ve got a fair few that are up to 3 or more metres in 10 years from an 8” graft, some such as
Seiryu are now 4 meter standards, all from a graft in just under 10 years.
If a cultivar struggles, don’t necessarily right off the cultivar, it may just be the rootstock.
Someone mentioned a 3 strikes and then our rule, I think that’s good advice.

I think that was me, lol. But I believe it is a good rule of thumb.
Do post updates on your Ryoku Ryu throughout the year J. It is a very interesting cultivar. I am sure that others will think so as well.

Very underrated cultivar this one, mine is only just starting to show it's beautiful spring colours, might have to wait a bit longer though with this weather , stunning fall colours as well.

The 1st of May and the last month of Spring, so here are a few that are escaping the overnight frosts.
They are Azuma Murasaki, Beni tsukasa, Sazanami, Arakawa and Aconitifolium.

    Good morning Maple lovers

I thought I’d just put a couple of different cultivars together to show the different array of colours we have in our gardens to enjoy. I love Spring time :-)

Jordan at the back, then middle row left to right is Isobel, Ukigumo, Moonrise and Beni Maiko.
The front two are Aratama and Flavescens.

Very satisfying to look at ;-)

    Luke

Looking great Luke. My Jordan was very susceptible to sun, it’s planted in the ground so it now lives in the shade of Herbstfeuer Circinatum and no more Lear burn and it’s really taken off.
A Aratama is a beauty with such rich and vivid colour.
