I've seen this done on Fruit trees, but has anyone ever done it with Japanese Maples? Would love to try and graft different colored varieties onto a bloodgood if possible.

Good evening A, I have seen one sold last year at a garden centre, but for the life of me I cannot remember what it was called. So yes maples have had different scions from different trees grafted to one rootstock.

Certainly possible. I have chip budded cultivars onto a larger maple tree to ¨hold¨ until I had more rootstock.
Be interesting to see what you can create

Sounds to me like an abomination. Just because something CAN be done, doesn't meant that it SHOULD be done.

I have to agree with you there Margot, the one I saw I didn't really like.

Not my cup of tea either..but love is in the eye of the beholder...

Rather than creating Frankenstein’s monster you could pot two complementary cultivars up in a suitably shaped and sized pot. I once potted up a green viridis with a red crimson queen and it looked very effective..until the viridis suddenly croaked it one winter!

Just thought I would add A, that although it's not for me, I didn't want to put you off in any way. You never know, you might create something amazing.
