Freely spreading Yae-beni-shidare blooming in a front yard with the setting sun on the north side of E. 32nd (west of Prince Albert) at April 10, 2021.

Ito-zakura past peak bloom and showing red eye, on the south side of E. 30th (east of Fraser) at April 11, 2021. Note the bulging calyxes, which is one of the features distinguishing it from Snofozam.

The three trees of Umineko in the yard of Laura Secord Elementary, on north side of E. 10th (east of Lakewood) are past peak bloom and showing red eyes at April, 11, 2021. They seemed to have peaked early this year.

Three young Rancho trees on the south side of E. 39th (west of Sherbrooke) are past peak bloom at April 11, 2021.

    Here's a nice walk:
Starting from 30th & St. Catherines, we look east and see the planting of Akebonos (more later):
    Akebono_30thStCatherines_2021-04-12_Blumenthal_7204.jpeg

Walking south 3 blocks, we come to the Yae-Beni-Shidare in almost full bloom on the south side of 33rd across the crosswalk from St. Catherines:
    YaeBeniShidare_33rdStCatherines_2021-04-12_Blumenthal_7208.jpeg YaeBeniShidare_33rdStCatherines_2021-04-12_Blumenthal_7206.jpeg YaeBeniShidare_33rdStCatherines_2021-04-12_Blumenthal_7207.jpeg

Heading to the horseshoe-shaped lane just north of McBride Annex (school), we see the only (as far as I know) Shirotae in this area:
    Shirotae_31stWindsor_2021-04-12_Blumenthal_7210.jpeg Shirotae_31stWindsor_2021-04-12_Blumenthal_7211.jpeg

And then back north to 30th & Windsor for the other end of the Akebono block that I mentioned at the beginning of this post:
    Akebono_30thWindsor_2021-04-12_Blumenthal_7212.jpeg Akebono_30thWindsor_2021-04-12_Blumenthal_7214.jpeg Akebono_30thWindsor_2021-04-12_Blumenthal_7215.jpeg
Note that the Kanzan in the foreground of the first picture in this row of three is showing plenty of buds.

You mean 'Kiku-shidare-zakura' (without the "shidare", it's a different cultivar, a non-weeping one). And it's not that either. 'Kiku-shidare-zakura' is a chrysanthemum-flowered cherry, way more petals.

Thanks. It just doesn't look like I remember the Yae-beni-shidare looking. Is that what it is?

Too early for Kiku-shidare. There is one on the south side of E. 36th (between Culloden and Knight). You can see the difference in flowers here #470.

The tree on E. 33rd and the St. Catherines crosswalk is a pitifully lopped Yae-beni-shidare that I try to avoid looking at when I'm passing by.

The four young Shirotae trees at Trout Lake Community Centre (access off E. 19th, just east of Victoria) are in full bloom at April 13, 2021. Taking over from the fading Akebono trees to their left.

Shirotae and Rancho on west side of Nanaimo, north of E. 20 at April 13, 2021.
The Shirotae is at peak bloom, the Rancho past peak bloom,

My wife's favourite above all Cherries, so all the photos are very well received on this side of the pond. Here they will be flowering in the next week, so my photos to come soon.

Mikuruma-gaeshi is starting its bloom on the north side of Brock, just west of Nanaimo at April 14, 2021. Because it is a little behind the one in full bloom in Renfrew, the darker bud pinks are still visible, like shadowy ghosts, in the paler opening flowers.

I love the pink stars! I noticed that today on the one at UBC Botanical Garden, on the right as you approach the parking lot.

What appears to be a fruit-bearing Prunus avium is all by itself in the middle of the block between 27th & 28th on St. Catherines, and across the street, the Kanzans are starting:
    PrunusAvium_StCatherines27th_2021-04-15_Blumenthal_7246.jpeg PrunusAvium_StCatherines27th_2021-04-15_Blumenthal_7248.jpeg Kanzan_StCatherines27th_2021-04-15_Blumenthal_7249.jpeg Kanzan_StCatherines27th_2021-04-15_Blumenthal_7250.jpeg

Around the corner on 27th & Prince Albert, next to the church, but on private property, there is this Yae-beni-shidare - a bit hard to get a good close-up:
    YaeBenShidare_27thPrinceAlbert_2021-04-15_Blumenthal_7252.jpeg YaeBenShidare_27thPrinceAlbert_2021-04-15_Blumenthal__7255.jpeg YaeBenShidare_27thPrinceAlbert_2021-04-15_Blumenthal__7253.jpeg

On Fraser at 30th, by the Shopper's Drug Mart, the Ama-no-gawas are in bloom, some almost completely, some just starting:

And that mountain range yet again, we love it Laura. Our highest in the UK, Ben Nevis is 450 miles away from us, but we drove there regularly during early Spring to walk up it in years gone by and mainly just to marvel at the sights. You are so lucky to have this on your doorstep. Do please keep the photos of the Cherries coming with that backdrop, if you get the chance ?

So ... it's kind of an in-between time up here on the hill, as we wait for the ubiquitous Kanzans to pop, but here is what I found today.

A Kanzan, just beginning to bloom, at 35th & Windsor:
    Kwanzan_35thWindsor_2021-04-16_Blumenthal_7271.jpeg

A Yae-beni-shidare, ending its show, on 37th just west of Knight:
    YaeBeniShidare_ 37thKnight_2021-04-16_Blumenthal_7279.jpeg YaeBeniShidare_ 37thKnight_2021-04-16_Blumenthal_7278.jpeg YaeBeniShidare_ 37thKnight_2021-04-16_Blumenthal_7280.jpeg

And many, many more Kanzans, this one at 31st & Ross:
    Kwanzan_31stRoss_2021-04-16_Blumenthal_7296.jpeg

And this two-tone Kanzan, whose root stock needs a bit of a trim, on the south side of 29th, just west of Ross:
