The 'Akebono' planting from Windsor to Glen on 22nd Ave. is almost in full bloom today:

The planting on Elgin Street from 26th to 27th Avenue is still dormant, but this Whitcomb (?) at the top, at 27th & Elgin, is just beginning to open up:

You can rule out 'Whitcomb' opening after 'Akebono'. This is on the festival map as 'Afterglow'.

Ah - right. I should have checked, but I didn't have time.

While most of the Akebono trees along this stretch of E. 35th have yet to open, this leader just east of Prince Albert is in almost full bloom on March 31, 2021. It's one of the few cherry trees I've seen that has incorporated the overhead wires instead of being subjected to pruning—it's Japanese-like inclusion growth.

This is it: the Accolade on Dumfries, south of E. 33rd say good-bye for another year to the Lions and Grouse Mountain at March 31, 2021. In the last photo, at bottom left, you can see the tops of the Akebono starting to take over cherry blossoming functions.

Somei-Yoshino now making its appearance. Although fenced off for the renovations at Brewer's park, the two trees on the west side of Victoria (around E. 26) are in full bloom at March 31, 2021.

The Somei-Yoshino in Glen Park (NE Windsor and E. 24th) is not quite at full bloom, but getting close, at March 31, 2021.

I went to see the Beni-shidare on 35th between Culloden and Knight , since Anne had said it was in full bloom, but I don't think it is quite there. Still, it's truly magnificent.

    upload_2021-3-31_18-12-12.png upload_2021-3-31_18-12-20.png

And at 30th & Windsor, one lone Akebono is trying to lead the pack to bloom (borrowing Anne's metaphor).

On 26th Ave., from St. Catherines to Prince Albert, there is a variety of cultivars, previously noted. The Akebonos are now in various stages of bloom, with the fullest one at St. Catherines. The one the least open is the youngest of the tribe, at the corner of Prince Albert.

On the south side of 31st, just east of Prince Albert, the Snofozam on private property first noted last year (I think) is not looking much fuller than then.

It's older sibling, on Ringwood, is in full bloom now:

    Snofozam_Ringwood_2021-04-01_Blumenthal_7102.jpeg

And what a difference a couple of days have made for these Akebonos on 22nd Ave. at Windsor!

I visited this tree today, but I didn't see any others nearby except for the one right around the corner on Prince Albert just north of 35th,

and these two relatively young ones just south of 33rd on St. Catherines:

Too many hasty notes. That is the only Akebono there. The rest of the cherry trees on E. 35th running four blocks are Kanzans.
Sorry to get your hopes up, Laura!

Afterglow has moved fast to catch up with Akebono along Elgin Street at E. 26th. Its darker pink can still be distinguished from the lighter pink of Akebono on April 4, 2021.

    20210404_ElginE26_AkebonoAfterglow_Eng_4373.jpeg 20210404_ElginE26_AkebonoAfterglow_Eng_4378.jpeg

The owner of the residence by this Akebono has a chair in place for cherry blossom viewing.
    20210404_ElginE26_Akebono_Eng_4374.jpeg 20210404_ElginE26_Akebono_Eng_4375.jpeg

Does not this Afterglow also deserves a chair, instead of just a crow?

The Sargent Hybrid trees along E. 13th, Clark west to Glen Drive, are just past peak bloom at April 5, 2021.

The great Akebono on the north side of E. 12th (between Clark and Woodland) is looking as grand as ever, surrounded by protective fencing, at April 5, 2021.

So ... I know that I'm duplicating some of Anne's work here, but I just couldn't resist. That block on Elgin from 26th to 27th is just stunning with its Akebonos (some with awfully big petals for an Akebono) and Afterglows:

    Akebono_Elgin26th_2021-04-05_Blumenthal_7135.jpeg Afterglow_Elgin26th_2021-04-05_Blumenthal_7140.jpeg Afterglow_Elgin26th_2021-04-05_Blumenthal_7141.jpeg Afterglow_Elgin26th_2021-04-05_Blumenthal_7143.jpeg Streetscape_Elgin27th_2021-04-05_Blumenthal_7144.jpeg

And then very close by there is the block from Windsor to St. Catherines on 26th Avenue, with Akebonos, some with clearly visible staminodes, and another kind of cherry which I could not identify:

    Akebono_26thWindsor_2021-04-05_Blumenthal_7147.jpeg Akebono_26thWindsor_2021-04-05_Blumenthal_7149.jpeg Akebono_26thWindsor_2021-04-05_Blumenthal_7151.jpeg Akebono_26thWindsor_2021-04-05_Blumenthal_7152.jpeg OtherCherry_26thStCatherines_2021-04-05_Blumenthal_7153.jpeg OtherCherry_26thStCatherines_2021-04-05_Blumenthal__7155.jpeg

You're all allowed to show off your photos. We haven't been told that we're being too exuberant here or that we should avoid giving too much exposure to some location. Thanks for posting them (and for naming them!). I'll use some of them.

But you both have different perspectives in your photos, so we are loving both of your postings. And the mountain shots, we just can't get enough of them........ wonderful Laura.

Nice looking Rancho, low-grafted; on the east side of Windsor, north of E. 33rd, full bloom at April 6, 2021.

Interesting - it used to be so weird looking because of the way they pruned it to avoid the overhead cables. You can see this in Anne's post #430.

There have been two Rancho's planted in my road in September 2020 here in England. I hope that they turn out as wonderful as the one you photographed Anne.

Yae-beni-shidare is in bloom on north side of E. 35th (east of Culloden) at April 8, 2021, taking over cherry duties from its sister Beni-shidare.
