Both fantastic pictures. I have wanted Akebono but the only place I can find is Maillot. I’d to see how those colours progress through the season. And the Mikazuki is a favourite of mine already and your picture reminds me why!!

The animals are returning to the thread once again and why not!!! They do compliment our trees very nicely.

I bought Lemon Lime Lace probably 20 to 25 years ago through Esveld.
Westonbirt had their own plant centre in those days and ordered their sales stock of Japanese Maples from Esveld twice a year (spring and autumn), they allowed me to add my orders to theirs and save on postage. I must have ordered several dozen rare varieties over a few years, I did have to drive and pick them up.

That is a great story Del and one that is so interesting to hear as Westonbirt could make a fortune if they became involved in that again.
Do you know why they stopped?
Regarding 'Lemmon lime lace', I heard from someone, can't remember who said it, but they said it just went out of fashion due to the name. Is that what you have heard.
Like Luke, I really like it from what I've seen on Amazing Maples, so perhaps you can post a few more photos of yours this year for us all to enjoy.

This was taken 18th April last year. I’ve no idea why they closed the plant centre, when I last visited Westonbirt about 5 years ago, the plant centre building was still there but appeared to be some sort of woodcraft centre, It’s below the current car park. I stopped going regularly when I took early retirement in 2005, I was working near Salisbury and used to call in on my way back home to Bedford. . When I used to go there they usually had several plant trolleys full of maples ready to put out, apart from the ones I ordered, the sales stock were generally of more unusual (at the time) varieties.

Many happy days indeed, seems like it'll be a nice and warm Spring

I got mine from Maillot, in fact, it was a "3lt pot" measure. Quite a big specimen, have to say, I didn't expect it. I noticed there isn't a specific thread for this cultivar, if you're interested I could make one. I could take photos throughout the year, and make a sort of journal.
I agree with you about Mikazuki. This is the first year I get to see his Spring colours, and he didn't disappoint at all!

Good morning A, here in Southern England I have Katsura and Little Princess only atm. But looking at the forecast over the next week I really don't want them to just yet. The lovely new buds are going to get hit with overnight frosts for 4 days in a row from Easter Monday.
Expect you will be free of that in California. Interested to hear what 2 of yours have leafed out?
