@Douglas Justice says 1 in 10 'Akebono' flowers have a petaloid; I say 1 in 100. :) And some years are better for them than others.

I noticed for the first time, these three trees I think are Umineko.
Currently, a little bit over it's prime blooming time.
They are not marked on the map.

There are some Akebono trees around my neighborhood. They are on the corners of Yarmish Drive and Kozier Drive. They are gorgeous this time of year.

You should add them on! It feels so nice to be able to contribute to a map that already has so many locations on it :)

Not sure what these are, but in bloom now at Steveston / Chatham. The row of trees is in an "alleyway" outside of Maple Residences that is also Chatham. The single tree is just a block away, also on Chatham, outside the Satori Health Centre.

The tree with white blooms and green leaves looks like Shirotae.

The 'akebono' are pretty much done here and the 'kanzan' are starting to come out! A bunch of photos from last week:
    1) My personal first sign of spring since it's in my neighbourhood. 2-3 beautiful 'akebono' on Cooney, in between Westminster Hwy and Ackroyd.
    2) (removed at request of property owner-wcutler)
    3) 'Shirotae' in Dorchester Circle are mostly open, beautiful!
    4) A variety of cultivars at WorkSafe BC along Elmbridge Way. 3 'Shirotae' with several 'kanzan' by the building, 3 'Kanzan' by the smoke 'stop', and a couple more trees in the parking lot.

    1) One 'Shirotae' and a lot of 'kanzan' not yet in bloom in this complex surrounding Dover Crescent
    2) (removed at request of property owner) wcutler
    3) A beautiful and slanted 'shirotae' on Buswell between Cooney and Park, that's about 4 stories tall!
    4) 2 pruned til they're ugly 'kanzan' on Cook by Buswell, starting to come in to bloom

Alas, these are not 'Shirotae' (which have more than 5 petals), but rather are sweet cherry, Prunus avium. This is all one tree? It's a little early for the biggest give-away - the sepals curl back against the calyx. But when they first open they do not - I only found one in your photo and it wasn't very clear. The leaf margins are unevenly scalloped, not serrated (like a knife) like the ornamental cherries.

Ah, I have a lot of photos, I can share with you later for your reference. It seems like a really nice neighbourhood with lots to see. I did see Prunus avium on the map in that area but I don't think I know what it actually looks like (despite having seen it in person now). That photo would have been two trees.

Oh! That's so exciting! Can you tell I'm starting to get tired and I'm just locating trees rather than identifying them properly I'll try to do better.

It was a very enjoyable walk today.

    1) The ones I thought were 'kanzan' at WorkSafe are not actually 'kanzan', they're 'shirofugen'!! Blooming now, in the Elmbridge parking lot, the three behind the smoke shelter, and also the corner of Elmbridge and Westminster Hwy (where there is also a 'kanzan', and ....maybe a sweet cherry). I think it was a group of 8 trees. One of the 'shirofugen' had a very low branch so also great for photos.
    2) The 'amanogawa' (8) along westminster highway and WorkSafe are also blooming now and SO cute! They smell nice too (i think). They're also baby sized so it's perfect to get close up photos! I've never seen this in bloom before so it's way prettier than I thought!
    3) There's also one very pretty tree in full bloom...sort of halfway between Elmbridge and Gilbert. The blossoms cover the branch like caterpillars but it's a beautiful shade of pink with green leaves. Is this the 'ito-zakuri' already on the map, or can I guess...'kiku-zakura'?? Either way, it's very nice to see in person.
    4) The 'kanzan' tunnel I posted before by Lynas and River is in bloom now. Go with a friend so they can help you get a full-body portrait, that's what two other girls were doing today. There are also 3 more 'lone' 'kanzan' out on River, but not as pretty compared to the tunnel.
    5) The 'shirotae' that was in full bloom last week is now nearing it's end but I got a closer photo of the blossoms just...because.
    6) Baby 'kanzan' blooming along Hollybridge Way

I remember those ‘Pandora’ on Jones Rd.
    Blooming same time as 2018.

    Nice to see them again.
