Acer platanoides 'Columnare'

    In another thread in the "general" maple section, someone mentioned "lollipop trees", actually referring to Acer platanoides 'Globosum'. I didn't get it at first because traditional lollipops in France don't have a rounded shape :

    We don't have this kind of funny nicknames for maples, but when first I read about "lollipop trees" I instantly thought of this line of maples not far from where I live. They're obviously platanoides, and I'm pretty sure they're Acer platanoides 'Columnare' :

    Like many other maple species, or other trees, they're not very frequently seen in my area, but things have changed in the past 10-15 years.

    And that's a good thing ;-)

    Don't know if the location was anywhere near Orleans but 'Columnare' originated in France in 1855, so if these are that particular one they are certainly not new to your country at least.
