I'm sure the term "defoliated" has never been used as often as this summer ;^)

It has very little incidence on trees if it happens just once, but when (if) it does several years in a row, it weakens the tree in the long term. I will put mine in the shade and pay a particular attention to these next year.

It happened on my bonsai, or potted Fagus (beech) or Malus (apple), species that prefer a wetter and cooler environment. I lost a couplf them or the others are weaker and weaker every year.

People don't make cider on the "French riviera", but they do in Normandy or Cornwall...

A couple of photos of A.P. Beni Kawa, this was planted in heavy Befordshire clay about 25 years ago and has full sun all day. It is currently about 8ft tall but I usually prune it each winter.

It seems that Boris has moved on to a new location, but we have a few new arachnids who have set up shop. My wife knows that I love spiders and she took some shots of a new neighbor munching on a fly.

My new Grandma Ghost is pretty much devoid of leaves and I was checking on it today. It has plenty of buds so all should be well for spring and to my surprise I noticed one branch is showing new growth!

    Oh, and Harry says Hi!!

@dangerine49 good evening J and Harry. Great photos and your Grandma ghost is going to look fantastic in the Spring and then onwards. Lots of lovely buds !!
A brave wife, mine would run a mile from a spider that large, Lol.

Good morning, on a lovely start to the day here in the South of England, a whispy cloud or two, but thats all. Almost Spring like. So as I say this I thought my topic today and after conversations on the forum yesterday, should be new growth!!! And new life. It is everywhere in my garden atm, so strange but pretty at the same time.
So here are a few I took whilst the early birds were singing in my garden today. There are a few in Autumn colours as well, so added these to show that it is actually September, Lol.
My personal favourite is Jordan, yes a Shirasawanum with new growth in September!!!!!!

Haven't seen the new residents but they have staked out their territory as most of last week was spent hiding from the smoke infused atmosphere, though the air is still bad it's been thoroughly mixed with thick fog the last 3 days.

Good morning on this lovely near Autumn day here in Southern England. I say Autumn, but it is more like Summer again.
My photos today are all about sunshine.
My particular favourite in my garden today is Wills Devine.

A few more in the sun, as it's such a lovely morning. 'Deshojo' is my second favourite on my walk in the garden after a late breakfast.

Good morning, well setting the alarm for an early photo session was worth it IMO. The dew was wonderful.
Thought it should be a few of my ghosts and reticulated maples to post in these conditions.
I would normally say, " my favourite in my garden today is". But I cannot, as everyone is a favourite for me this morning. Hope you agree !!?

Good morning, more dew today, the sun is up and not a cloud to be seen. Going to get even hotter later today according to forecasters.
Red Dragon is my particular favourite today in the garden.

Welcome to 'Purple Ghost' ! Not bad at all considering the weather we've had and that the soil in the pot is very dry :

Haha, yes they are here with me. Very happy. Next spring should be pretty awesome. I will go out tomorrow morning and take some pics. I’m trying to stake the dissectums in some interesting shapes so they will look a bit odd for a year or two lol. Hopefully they should make some nice trees.
