Thanks @Acerholic for the input. I plan on removing the new shoots they came on so fast what was it like 4 weeks ago I cut them all down and pruned it. I love it’s intertwining roots they look beautiful to me. Thanks for the compliment on the shaping I really appreciate it. I did remove some soil from the trunk that’s why we can even see the new shoos there. I’m afraid to remove much more as the tree has been this way for over 40 years. Too much “proper care” might kill it and I’d feel horrible ;) I’m not going to make prune anymore this Year I did remove a good 1/3 of the tree already.

Since I've put it in a sunny spot, yes it stays mainly red, with just a little ghreen-bronze colour on the lower branches.

And it's its natural shape, no stake or anything. A couple of lower branches died though, which is why it stands more upright than dissectums thah tend to be wider than tall.

@Lisa Harry, my rule of thumb for Summer trim is no more than 20%.
It is easy to get carried away especially when you see a shape forming.

You wont kill it by moving soil from the trunk. To the contrary, soil up against the trunk will cause it to rot over time and could well cause death to the three. Remove soil gently with your hands so as not to damage the roots. To just expose the root flare is what you want.

Good morning, I've just taken these to show how some reds are now green, some are staying red and some even have new growth at the end of July. Transforming daily!!!

@Acerholic I really love your Atropurpureum. Would you also recommend Vitifolium or is it only nice when it begins to colour? Between Vitifolium and Osakazuki, which one would you choose?

@sun, good afternoon A. Osakasuki for the amazing blaze of brightest scarlet red in Autumn. 'It really does glow'.
I love Vitifolium all seasons as the shapes of leaves fascinate me. But you are right A, Vitifolium has he multiple kaleidoscope of colours in the Autumn that attracts so many to it. Rather plain in the Summer for a lot of people. So many maples so many to chose. You can see why some of our collections are so big. We just don't stop buying new ones, especially when tempted on this forum.

    Hope that's of a little help A.

This little 'Gwen's Rose Delight', aka 'Shirazz' is pushing new growth :

    acerp-gwensro-2_200728a.jpg

The older leaves have turned into rather dull colours, or green with a white margin like those of a much bigger one :

    acerp-gwensro_200728a.jpg

    PS: this shows
1/ how two of the same name can look different depending on their age, sun exposure (both are in almost full shade), soil components, etc.
2/ how difficult it is to tell which is which when someone asks "please, help me identify this cultivar" considering 1/.

    ^_^

It seems "Shiraz", or "Shirazz" (- mataz?) comes from "Syrah" which is a red wine variety. at least, that's what "Truffaut", one of the oldest chain of garden centres say on their website :

    Acer palmatum 'Shirazz' :10 L

Maples and wine : these people can't be all bad... ;0)

I know I’m posting another non JM post..but hopefully people won’t mind..I have babies on one of my Phalaenopsis orchids..2 separate leaf formations and a root and flower spike coming off one of them..apparently I need to leave them on until there are 3/4 decent roots on each..I have just established these babies are called “keikis” never seen this before

After spending half of yesterday with a surgical procedure and an hour drive each way I don't think I would have set up a photo shoot today. LOL

Doesn't mean I could resist a shot or two this morning as point and shoot is so quick and easy.

@LoverOfMaples, I remember your photo from June 30th D, it was stunning then. How is it looking now? Still keeping it's red?
