I had Camperdown elm on my brain from reading today's BPotD: Ulmus glabra ‘Camperdownii’, and I thought this looked like that, with its distorted trunk that I neglected to photograph. But the black buds reminded me of European ash, and they're opposite, so not an elm. I see that there is Fraxinus excelsior 'Pendula'. Is that what this is? It's in Stanley Park, near the allee of 'Shirotae' cherries.
I'm surprised how late this is to get flowers and leaves - just flowers coming on the top so far, and leaf buds. I see one website that says Fraxinus excelsior 'Pendula' does not have flowers and fruits, but I'm seeing several photos of samaras. This looks like Ash and it's weeping. I think I might have the right ID.
I photographed this tree again two weeks ago. The new growth is prodigious, and very cool. I saw what I think is a species F. excelsior the same day that has new branch growth of maybe 7 cm.
I think this is also Fraxinus excelsior 'Pendula', but the leaflets are much larger and deeply serrated. This tree has lots of samaras. In Queen Elizabeth Park, between the Rose Garden and the Golf Course.
