Very cheerful G. And I totally agree that a little can often be far nicer in the Japanese Maple world.

Good morning J, lovely group of almost moody Japanese maples in the rain. Your Butterfly is very special indeed. 'Love it'

Hi everyone, I am new to this forums. It’s nice to see everyone’s JM photos here. Amazing collections. Thank you D for welcoming me!
The photos are taken at the national trust park (unknown cultivar). I thought it’s something special.

    Hi Monica,

It is a pretty maple, but then I never met a maple I didn't like! :)

I guess the little one is perhaps 6-8 cm wide by 6 cm tall. The other is maybe 15 cm high by 40 across.

There are a few maple that would work in your climate, but one that occurs to me, because it is similar to the little Cretan Maple, is Queen Amalia's Maple: Acer hyrcanum ssp reginae-amaliae. It has the distinction of having the smallest leaves of all the maples. I don't have a picture handy but will try to take one later.

Hi @BA006 , welcome to the forum! I believe the maple you have pictured is Acer circinatum, the "Vine Maple" from the American north west coast.

Hi D, Yes indeed. The pics were taken at Winkworth. Wow, I am so amazed.

Thank you, Emery ! It's great to know the name of the cultivar ;-))

My empan is bigger than yours ! LOL

    empan_200702a.jpg

Actually, people at that time were much smaller than 1.78 (my height so far), so I suppose they had smaller hands. Now, an "empan" is probably between 20 cm and 10 inches ;0)

Just did a measure and mine and it's exactly the same 20cm, but I am 1.83 tall.
But I will concede, to a European friend.

And what about a "foot" ?

I've just measured my left foot, it's more or less 27 cm. Imperial measurement 1 foot correspond to 30.48 cm.

Just pulling the leg of our American friends ^_^

    Back to maples :

Absolutely wonderful Luke, I can see why you are pleased. I love the Black Lace, I'm still waiting for mine that my children ordered for me 3 weeks ago. Where did yours come from?
Glad to see you got Red Flamingo, it will help shade your delicate maples.
Cannot see anything on your list that I don't like and they are so very healthy.
You will have to make walkways through your pots, a bit like Charlie !!? Lol

Thanks D, I appreciate the lovely compliment. Black Lace was from Maillot actually. It’s a decent size and shape. My favourite of my new arrivals has to be Hino Tori Nishiki. I got this one from Hippo and the photo really doesn’t do it justice. It’s tiny but so so pretty. The Dissectum Emma I got from Acers Online who buy and sell with Budlake Nursery. I have seen this variety advertised elsewhere but thought I’d give these guys a try. It’s very nice. It is a good few years old and sturdy and the colours are much brighter than the photo shows.

Yes I think the measurement bit has gone the whole mile now!!
The colours of your Burgundy Jewel are delightful, years ago they tried to do a car that colour, can't remember the make now but the few that sold looked amazing in different light.
There is something about a dull evening that really brings out the best in maples. It certainly has yours Alain. And the Seiryu is looking so good, you must be very pleased this year with it.

Thanks for that Luke, if mine does not arrive soon I might tell my children to contact Maillot.
Do post photos of yours individually on the Maple photo gallery so they don't get lost on this thread.
Btw have you considered becoming a member of the Maple Society? You are such a very keen enthusiast, I'm sure you would get a lot out of it and contribute to it over future years.

Regarding what I said about cost, this is a comparison between 2 different nurseries. They both cost around £20 and sold in 2-3 ltr pots

on the leftt is Baldsmith from Hippo and on the right is Emma from Acers Online

Now that is very interesting, Hippopotering are not normally outdone.
You have recommended Acers online before and you have shown good evidence why tonight. Good posting Luke.
