These are taken in my front yard flower bed. I had planted it 20 years ago when
I moved into the house. It blooms every year since then, late spring to early
summer. The flowers are the size of a loonie. I didn't take much attention to it
until this year, when I am mostly confined at home. Ashamed that I don't even
remember the name as the packet with its name on was thrown long time ago.
Kindly ID please. Thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure that this is the Chinese Ground Orchid, Bletilla striata. I've been growing them under one of my fruit trees for more than 20 years.

I agree too. I just planted 3 different varieties in my yard this spring and two of them seem to be doing well. I wouldn’t call it a house plant though.. it needs to be outside.

I first encountered it in a Kyoto garden, mostly done flowering, but still looked pretty.

    Thank you all.
Really surprised that orchid can be that hardy, virtually without any caring !
