Hi, I tried in-ground composting near a zucchini-to-be, but instead of worms, I got ANTS. Has anyone tried in-ground composting in or near a vegetable garden?

I do it all the time with both garden refuse and kitchen scraps, including meat, fat, bones, and all other organic items. I just bury the fresh material almost a foot underground and sometimes plant seeds and seedlings immediately afterwards. I do see ants around the garden, but they don't seem to be causing any damage to the plants. Strawberries always attract ants, but they are grown in soil that has not had any recent in-ground composting.
