    It is an Acer.
    Probably a named cultivar of Acer palmatum.

    Hi tlairmore, first of all does it matter what it is when it's such a beautiful tree. Secondly I agree with silver surfer, Acer palmatum. IMO Possibly Emperor 1 or Red Emperor.
    Please add the photo to the cheering yourself up thread, many will love it.
