I am looking for plant species names for a mixed perennial cover crop in a mixed orchard. I would like deep roots plants that only have an above ground growth to 6". I would also like a mix of warm and cool season plants, a mix of grasses and broadleaf plants, and I would like to include as many native species as possible. Any suggestions? This orchard is in the Comox Valley (east coast of Vancouver Island), BC. Thanks.

The cover crop selection tool from DLF Pickseed may provide you with some information: Cover Crops. They also have a section for native seed: Native Seed.

There is also this tool but it's for Easter Canada: Cover Crops Decision Tool - Vegetable Production. Nevertheless you may be able to glean some information on the characteristics and suitability of a cover crop to a particular environment.

Cover crop attributes can also be found in this seed catalog: Cover Crops Seeds.
