Winter hummer

    It's very cold and snowy at the Garden recently. You have to admire the tough little humming birds. This one was feeding from a mahonia, (Berberis hybrid, not sure which), sitting as much as possible to avoid wasting energy.

    Anna's hummingbird and what is most likely to be Mahonia x media.

    In Vancouver Anna's is the only hummingbird that doesn't always migrate south to warmer climes. Looks like it is one of those who made that mistake this year. May be kept here for too long by the sugary water in somebody's feeder.
