I’m pretty sure it’s a Pinus but which one, I can’t be sure. The trunk colour is an unusually consistent green colour. Many thanks
Closer views needed. So far the previous year's needles look like it might be Pinus wallichiana 'Zebrina' but using only this shot it is impossible to tell for sure.
Sorry for asking my own question instead of answering yours. What is this yellow prostrate shrub on your pic? Some kind of Juniper?
Could well be Pinus wallichiana, but P. ayacahuite and one or two other white pines also possible. Close-up of the shoots needed to check for fine pubescence, if any. May need to wait a few years for some cones to be certain of its ID though. It looks recently planted; I suspect the yellowish older needles are due to transplanting stress, rather than being a variegated cultivar like 'Zebrina'. It has, yes; not convinced this is right, though! The two are very different in foliage structure. My preference is to retain it as a species.
Nice one. thanks all for your help. I’ve just been engaged to help train staff at this 200 acre estate garden. Mayfield garden walkaround It’s been 20yrs since i’ve worked with cool temperate treasures. No doubt I’ll be calling on your sage knowledge more in the future. Providing this drought breaks & the bushfires stay away. Gardening with climate change makes each year a completely new challenge. Cheers Mayfield garden walkaround
