Background as in how it originated, what your involvement is, what expectations are associated with it...as in "This popped up here by itself" or "When it came from the nursery they said"...the one photo doesn't really make what it might be apparent. I can tell, however that I don't see a resemblance to Abelia myself.

Do you have any plum trees nearby? Is it in container or growing from the ground?
One Populus species is also rather similar, if to consider, that spontaneous sprouting is involved.
    PlantFiles: Chinese Poplar, Simon Poplar
Poplar seeds spread miles from the seeding tree.

Can you get a very detailed close-up of a shoot with a leaf or two, showing the bud at the leaf base, please? As well as Populus simonii, there's some willows that look similar (Salix lucida, S. lasiandra, and perhaps European S. pentandra if it is invasive in the region).

If not growing in a recently arrived potted plant source tree will be visible nearby somewhere. And maybe over 60' tall - the common poplar seedling of our area is the native black cottonwood, these have small leaves at first.

    Populus trichocarpa
