if one is grapes or cherries are they edible? leaves do NOT look healthy - maybe just dry weather?
and the other one with leaves about 2 to 3 inches high. tree is about 8foot high.

They look very like small plums or cherries (the back of my mind is saying cherry plum, Prunus cerasifera); what's going on with the leaves looks like a fungal affliction that's common to those trees in Ecuador, but I'd be hesitant to think it's also present in BC.

I can tell you 100% certainty that they're not grapes - those grow on vines and have very different leaf structure.

Try showing more pictures of the different kind to the left, ones that show more of it.

Yes, Prunus cerasifera; probably with one of the purple-leaf cultivars somewhere in its ancestry.

Could perfectly well be a named hybrid cultivar or unnamed hybrid seedling, without flowers being present it can't be seen if it has the reflexed sepals of a pure cherry plum.

"More" as in the habit, the bark, any other parts like flowers or fruits - with what is shown so far it looks like it might be a species of cherry, but that is about all that can be made out at this point.

    thanks everyone.
now what low mainenance plants are deer resistant and grow in full sun.
as we have an area of say 50ft x 50ft to cover, nothing expensive!
Maybe some daffodils and other spring stuff.
