Ranchos - one on the east side of Windsor between 31st & 33rd, in front of the Slavic Baptist church, and a teenage one across Windsor at the side of McBride Annex (school):

Just west of St. Catherine's on the south side of 33rd Ave., there's this beautiful pendula 'Yae-beni shidare', previously posted:

We also have a sumptuous 'Shirotae', previously reported, in the back yard of private property facing a short lane parallel to and just south of 31st Ave., between Windsor and St. Catherine's, behind McBride Annex (school):

And a baby Akebono just west of St. Catherine's on 31st Ave.:

The little people seem to have occupied this Kanzan, which has not started to bloom yet:

This one a little further north on St. Catherine's is just starting to bloom:

Between Prince Albert and St. Catherine's, on 26th Ave. (closer to St. Catherine's), on both sides of the street, there are these trees, the younger ones of which are very high-grafted. I'm not sure whether they are Akebonos, Somei Yoshinos or something else entirely:

Further east on 26th, between St. Catherine's and Windsor, this poor pendula Yae-beni Shidare is battling it out with a cedar hedge. The lion does not seem to be helping at all. Furthermore, the house, a Sears Craftsman-style house, is for sale, which may not bode well for the cherry tree or the house:

At 29th & Ross, where the Kanzans will bloom in a couple of weeks, there are two scrawny little Akebonos holding their own:
    rB+n8k48S2+L3HXKBcewPQ.jpg 7R2fp0NTTxCV473rLM8vsg.jpg
And here's another embattled pendula - this time just Beni Shidare, nearby, but I've forgotten where it was - maybe 28th & Ross:

It's interesting to see that 'Kanzan' are at the same stage in this neighbourhood as in the West End.

Actually, this is the only one that had any blossoms on it - it was a south-facing trunk, protected from the wind.

Festival favourite Kanzans in three directions (west, south, & east) from 29th & Ross about 50% in bloom - root stock, too, in a couple of cases.

Here is a drive-by - a block of 'Kanzan' across from John Hendry Park (Trout Lake Park) on Garden Drive at Grandview Highway.

The festival favourite 'accolades' that run from 32nd to 33rd on Dumfries are looking wonderful this year. There are six healthy trees on both sides of the block, and two plums at 33rd.

And the festival favourite 'Whitcomb's in the church parking lot at 17th & Knight are almost done:

Some of the Akebonos on 22nd Street between Glen & Windsor are starting to bloom:

Kensington's mighty Beni-shidare is in almost peak bloom, March 23, 2020. Overshadowing its house on the north side of E. 35th Avenue, between Culloden and Knight.

Kensington's borderline Accolade (west side Nanaimo, north Kingsway) is just past peak bloom on March 24, 2020.

Anne Eng's post #393 above inspired me to go on a pendula hunt today. First, I went to see the one she posted, which is definitely spectacular, but I'd say it's only about 60% in bloom, and it's buddy on the other side of the walkway, which I believe is a 'Yae-beni-shidare', is not in bloom yet.
    IMG_4347.jpeg IMG_4372.jpeg

This led me to check out the 'Yae-beni-shidare' near the bus stop at 33rd and Somerville, but that one has not started to bloom yet.

Nearby, however, the beautiful white 'Ito-zakura' is also about 60% open:
    IMG_4352.jpeg IMG_4354.jpeg

After that, I went to check out the monster of a 'Yae-beni-shidare' that I photographed last year (I think), trying to smother some tall shrubs at 26th just west of Windsor, and it is also not in bloom yet.
    IMG_4365.jpeg

The 'Akebono's nearby, however, are starting to bloom:

Ah, I remember that pair very well .

But it will be a long time before I get to view them .

Staying home on the Sunshine Coast for the foreseeable.

Thanks to all the scouts for posting.

Kensington's other large Beni-shidare is still there on the west side of Nanaimo, north of Kingsway, on March 25, 2020.

lets try this again. The 'Akebono' trees along 22nd at Windsor are showing a beautiful pink tunnel.....with lots of cars due to everyone staying home :( The cherries will continue!
