Interesting. Thanks...I checked all those stamp plants to see if they held the answers to the 14 unidentified plants I have...no luck unfortunately. We visited the Botanical garden in Mauritius twice.....it was so very hot and humid couldn't do it all in one session. We expecting to find many rare /unusual trees/shrubs. It was more like a park with huge evergreen trees and lots of palm trees. Sadly it was virtually devoid of any colourful flowers and labels were a rarity. Bitterly disappointing.
There was a guide, once upon a time, 1822: Catalogue of exotic plants cultivated in the island of Mauritius : - Biodiversity Heritage Library (I've looked through Tropical and Subtropical Trees: An Encyclopedia for all of these, and nothing leapt out at me)
Hi Daniel. Much appreciated. This shrub/tree was most attractive with a sprinkling of these pale pink flowers..dainty leaves. I bought a few books to take but sadly they just have all the common stuff. Heavy book "Flora of the Seychelles" is excellent but limited...managed to get a few id's in that. Maybe these plants come from Africa? I have tried e mailing various people in Mauritius. No response at all from a couple A botanist at the University has been very helpful...but don't want to bombard him. He gave me one good answer. Yesterday I sent an email to Claudia at the Herbarium in Mauritius. Today I got an instant reply. "Plant 1 (white flowers, the 'pink' is because the flowers are getting older and the light on them): Coffea myrtifolia (Mascarene endemic)" I am so thrilled to at last get a name for this very dainty elegant tree/shrub.
