The beautiful flowering plant in the photo looks as if it’s leaves should be sharp and spiky but they are soft and pliable.
The yellow flowers are without scent and remind one of Evening Primrose and have six petals with a beautiful red centre. It is left untouched by local free roaming goats and grows to about 12 inches high.
Growing on waste ground near a boarding jetty to the Ganges where many people pass near by.
    Location: Kalna, West Bengal, India
I seem to remember a similar (but prostrate) plant in Morocco?
Any ID as would like to see if I could grow indoors in UK.

    Looks like Argemone mexicana.

Ditto to Argemone mexicana; an invasive weed in much of the subtropics. It needs plenty of sun and heat, so won't do well in Britain.

    Thank you for your replies.
And I note the comments about UK cultivation being unlikely.
