'Whitcomb' at condo on SW corner of Pendrell and Gilford. Several airy trees looking good in morning light.

The petals have already started to fall at Nicola/Pendrell.

Cherry scouting with Wendy Cutler in the snow today. Winter wonderland. 'Whitcomb' at Comox and Stanley Park.

More Winter Wonderland at Nicola Mini Park. Actually saw two hummingbirds feeding on the 'Whitcomb' flowers at 4:45 pm. Too bad I was unable to photograph the birds - they were a lot quicker than I was.

'Whitcomb' at Pendrell and Gilford - one day I'll get close to them.

The snow was melting so fast that I was getting drenched and the opportunity to catch the delicate snow flakes disappeared very quickly.

'Accolade' are finally in bloom, but I didn't photograph them - there are lots of photogs now in the West End. I was surprised to see this 'Beni-shidare' at Alexandra Park looking so colourful from across the park.

This little cherry tree was purchased at UBCBG Gift Shop last fall and planted by guerrilla gardeners residing at 1666 Pendrell Street. Located in the gated pool garden, but visible through the fence. It was labelled 'Akebono'.

Good thing Wendy Cutler lives in the neighbourhood. Tree is clearly 'Accolade'.

'Accolade' still look good in the West End - actually in peak bloom now. I don't know exactly what was going on here at Chilco mini-park. Maybe a shoot for a bridal magazine.

The blossoms all along Comox are wonderful and in full bloom right now. Check it out from Chilco to Stanley Park and every yard along the way

@Michael Mracek doesn't specialize in cherries, just in nice photos. Two postings previous, we have Viburnum x bodnantense, Prunus ceracifera (two plum photos) and a cherry, but I can't tell which - either 'Accolade' or 'Akebono'. I'd have said the latter, but I can't remember if they had open flowers a week ago.

I checked out Stanley Park 'Akebono' trees today. This cultivar is fully open almost everywhere, except the Rose Garden in Stanley Park and I think Queen Elizabeth Park, but there are enough flowers out to make the visit worth-while. The locations posted here are very close together, maybe a five or ten minute walk to see them all. These are at the Rose Garden.
    20180406_RoseGarden_Akebono_Cutler_161815.jpg

On the way to the Rose Garden, where there are two old 'Somei-yoshino', the young 'Akebono' trees are getting big enough to put on a show. The darker group in the centre are the 'Somei-yoshino'.
    20180406_PipelineRd-South of RoseGarden_Somei-yoshino-Akebono_Cutler_160915.jpg 20180406_PipelineRd-South of RoseGarden_Somei-yoshino-Akebono_Cutler_161118.jpg
This is the above group from the other end, near the car tunnel.
    20180406_StanleyParkCarTunnel_Akebono_Cutler_162434.jpg

A fairly new planting on the north side of the pedestrian tunnel is getting large enough to create some interest.
    20180406_StanleyParkTunnel-NorthSide_Akebono_Cutler_160534.jpg

On the south side, trees a bit older, there has been a lot of activity, photographers, people hanging out.

From the above location, walking south toward English Bay, you pass three tall 'Rancho', seen in the first photo from the street above, the red trees in the centre.
    20180406_StanleyParkTennisEast_Rancho_Cutler_155927.jpg 20180406_LostLagoonTennisEast_Rancho_Cutler_163508.jpg

Farther along, the 'Shirotae', not pictured, are just starting to bloom. Just past them are two 'Somei-yoshino' that had only a few flowers last weekend, in peak bloom now.
    20180406_LostLagoon_Somei-yoshino_Cutler_163700.jpg 20180406_LostLagoon_Somei-yoshino_Cutler_163730.jpg 20180406_LostLagoon_Somei-yoshino_Cutler_163739.jpg 20180406_LostLagoon_Somei-yoshino_Cutler_163851.jpg

On the way out of the park at the end of Comox is one Sargent Hybrid in full bloom.
    20180406_StanleyParkEdgeComox_SargentHybrid_Cutler_170612.jpg

On Comox, east of Chilco, are two 'Sendai-shidare', pictured here maybe every year.

A walk in the park with Bill Stephens. About 40 strong and a lot of fun. Thanks Bill.

Two slender 'Ama-no-gawa' in an elegant setting at Kensington Place - on Beach, east of Nicola. A favourite of mine, blooming now.

On my way to the Rose Garden for Bill Stephen's walk on Sunday, April 15 I swung by Lost Lagoon. 'Shirotae' looking good in morning light.

Also on Sunday morning, stopped by the 'Sendai-shidare' on Haro and Gilford. Cute tree.

This lone 'Mikuruma-gaeshi' on Robson east of Gilford is not on our festival Neighbourhood Maps. I'm hoping, being a loner over on the north side of the West End, that the Parks Board won't discover it, though there are another two or three at the end of Haro. I'm still upset at all the ones of this cultivar that were removed a few years ago on Pendrell, including a not-too-bad one across from my building. I'm sure no Parks Board people read this thread.

As usual, the West End and Downtown are ushering in late season for cherry viewing. These 'Ama-no-gawa' outside the liquor store at Alberni and Bute seem like they are downtown, but south of Georgia and west of Burrard is properly West End.
    20180417_AlberniBute_Ama-no-gawa_Cutler_P1330508.JPG 20180417_AlberniBute_Ama-no-gawa_Cutler_P1330509.JPG 20180417_AlberniBute_Ama-no-gawa_Cutler_P1330511.JPG 20180417_AlberniBute_Ama-no-gawa_Cutler_P1330513.JPG

There are plenty of open 'Kanzan' flowers around in these neighbourhoods. These photos are from a line of 'Kanzan' on the south side of Georgia west of Burrard. No trees look really open yet, but I think they will be very pink by the weekend.
