Pine cone ID

    The attached photo of the cone with pale apophyses was taken in 2013, labeled Pinus halepensis. All other P. halepensis I've seen look like the other 2 pix. Can this species vary like this? Or, is the one labeled incorrectly. Any help appreciated.

    Immature cones of Pinus halepensis dry pale yellow like this if picked a few months before maturity; these cones look like they have been picked by squirrels or some other seed-eater (in Australia, perhaps most likely by cockatoos). So I'd guess it is correctly labelled.
