Here is the other 'Rancho' I found, at the east end of Oyama Court.
    20160402_OyamaCtOsoyoosCr_Rancho_Cutler_130417.jpg 20160402_OyamaCtOsoyoosCr_Rancho_Cutler_130248.jpg 20160402_OyamaCtOsoyoosCr_Rancho_Cutler_130310.jpg

And right near it, two 'Akebono', of course finished blooming, but still with a lot of petals hanging on, so they made enough of an impression to make me go look.

Several 'Akebono' at 5835 Hampton Place were added to the map by anonymous person.
    20160402_5835HamptonPl_Akebono_Cutler_124333.jpg 20160402_5835HamptonPl_Akebono_Cutler_124421.jpg 20160402_5835HamptonPl_Akebono_Cutler_124444.jpg

The same person entered 'Kanzan' on Linden Crescent. What we found at the marker were two 'Akebono' and one 'Shirotae'. I'm going to use the marker for these. If anyone knows where the 'Kanzan' are, please post them and enter them to the map.

One more from the map entries, this one not exactly where 'Kanzan' were indicated, so again, maybe we missed the intended trees. At The Pemberly on Hampton Place are five trees along the side of the property, four of them nice-looking 'Tai-haku'.

Novice cherry scout Yong said we should make sure they're all the same, and sure enough, the second one is 'Shirotae'.

Here's a row of 'Shirotae' we discovered en route, where Acadia Rd and Osoyoos Cr meet.

Photos taken at the UBC walk with Douglas Justice on a beautiful morning, April 2. Another great turnout and another great walk and talk.
    Thank you Douglas.

Found outside Sitka building, which is on Agronomy Road between Western Parkway and Wesbrook Mall on UBC campus. Possibly Ama-no-gawa? They look quite young.

Yes, 'Ama-no-gawa', good find! That one petal in the third photo is amazing.

Yes, Allen found that really amazing petal.
If you go further in along Agronomy Road, you'll see a nice carpet of pink. What I believe are Kanzans are dropping their petals already. I took some photos early this month and thought I'd give them a while to bloom fully but I think I returned a tad too late.

While sorting past photos, also found these taken end March. Seem to be a row of Akebono or Somei-Yoshino.

It's too hard for me to tell at that stage. With all that witches broom, it should be 'Somei-yoshino', but am I just imagining a petaloid in the upright flower in the upper left? That would make it 'Akebono'. You could put it on the map, select one or the other, mention the ID issue, and I'll just not approve it till next year, try to find it then based on the marker, which I can see but won't show till it's approved. I wish you were going to be here.

Last year these two "Okame' trees were in full bloom February 22, see posting #143.
Today they are only just starting to blossom.
Located between the Asian Centre and the Parkade on Memorial Drive.

And non-matching young 'Akebono'. Too bad.
I'm glad to see that they're still looking good, so there should still be some flowers, and petals on the ground, for Douglas Justice's Tree Talk & Walk on Monday, April 17 at 10am (meet at the parkade nearest Nitobe Garden).

With the guidance of Wendy Cutler, I finally found the o-yama-zakura in the UBC Botanical Garden. It's labelled Prunus sargentii and is prominently situated on Upper Asian Way at Stearn. Thanks Wendy!

Two years later and the 'Whitcomb' look quite well established. There are 3 trees now. Blooming a bit earlier than 2016.

'Okame' at Fraser River Parkade looked good on Tuesday, March 20. Bloom time the same as 'Okame' in Kitsilano.

I'm posting the UBC Botanical Garden cherries in the Talk about UBC Botanical Garden forum, so nothing has been posting in this neighbourhood since those 'Okame' have been in bloom. You can look back a few years to see what's around the neighbourhood. I want to feature the row of 'Tai-haku' at the garden on the festival's Blooming Now - Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival page, so am adding a couple of photos in the neighbourhood thread. They are looking splendid right now.
