Wildflowers: What is the name of strange fruit?

Hello everyone,

I found this fruit in the old garden and it is sad that the fruit is beneficial.

Do you know what is the name of this fruit ?

It's Maclura pomifera, Osage orange. Not sure how "beneficial" the fruit is, but there have been many uses for the plant.

Ditto to Osage-orange. Cattle can eat the fruit, but people can't.

 

I did some reading about osage orange last year (or whenever) after someone mentioned the mamoths...
