Identification: North Shore (Vancouver) Mushrooms

    Went exploring Saturday on the North shore and came across several different species and am working my way through identifying them all.

    Have one that I have no idea about, any suggestions?

    looks to be a type of Inonotus

    I was about to agree with you mudman as there is some Inonotus tomentosus in my neighbourhood right now that looks a lot like this. However, I think this may be a very young Phaeolus schweinitzii. Also, the dominant North Shore trees would suggest Phaeolus more so.
    Darb, if happen to be back in that spot and able to take a shot of this as it gets a bit older, that might sort this out.
