plant id

    I was recently in Vancouver and came across a couple of plants I'd like to ID. The first is a native plant

    the other an azalea or rhodo at Vandusen gardens where the tiny red/violet flowers were pretty much finished but staying on the shrub to give an nice effect.

    1st looks like False Solomon's Seal (Maianthemum racemosum).

    I can't make out the detail of the second one too well. Escallonia?

    I know escallonia so that isn't it. I'v cropped the photo to give you a closer look...wish I'd taken a close up of leaves and flowers but it was the form that captured my attention.
