    Alex,
Do you know how to propagate Acer calcaratum. Last weekend I was given some material to try grafting and cuttings. The grafts onto Acer palmatum already don't look too well, the cuttings too early to tell. The plant which is now 5m or so has never had seed and past attempts to propagate have failed. I'll attach a picture of a branch for interest. It is evergreen where it is in a climate that rarely gets frosts.

I have large trees of Acer calcaratum now on Acer palmatum ssp. palmatum. It appears to be quite vigorous on Acer palmatum and shows no signs of incompatibility.
