    Washington state/woodland/Whidbey Island:

Hello, as an addition to my other thread, I have another tree or shrub that is growing about 40 feet away from my mystery tree, and it's a mystery, too.

This tree, about 12 feet tall now has interesting bark, a stem about 2 inches in diameter. Leaves are 2 inches long, glossy, and in July of this year (when the pictures were taken) there were small pink flowers which turned into small fruit, which turn red in the fall. They are filled with seed. In the full length shot, the shrub is the Y-shape in the middle. Does anybody have any ideas?

    Thank you so much.

    Lizzy

Thank you, Axel! It's pretty, but not worth worrying about propagating (or eliminating)

Certain Cotoneaster are prevalent weeds in this region, some time ago more than 60 species had been recognized as growing spontaneously in Seattle for instance. So I would cut this one down, instead of leaving it to reproduce itself and add its own contribution to the problem.

It's not quite on our property, just over the line, and the owner there is absent, so I can do a little surgery when no one is looking.
