I want to plant a ligularia Othello in my garden. I know it's going to get about 3' wide but am curious if it would work in this part of my garden? Please see attached photo. I am thinking when it matures it will be over top of part of this low shrub and that's okay but when a plant says it will be 36" wide is that going by leaves or the part that comes out of the ground? I apologize this photo for some reason is upside down.

No hot sun for these, also you want them at the front because they produce a large clump of basal leaves.

    Thank you Rob,
Yes this will be going into my part shade garden at the front of my house. The North Side getting possibly some of the afternoon sun around 3pm on.

My concern with planting it at the front of the garden would be that because it has such large basal leaves it would cover everything up behind it. So that's why I am thinking of putting it Att he back of the garden close to the house.
