    Hello,

A great online resource is the Japanese Garden enthusiast home page. This page is great for its photo library of Japanese gardens and garden elements.

    http://park.geocities.jp/kubokin615/index.html

The home page is organized by garden type: dry landscape (or) stroll and moss gardens with water elements (or everything else that is not a dry landscape). By clicking on the picture of garden type, you will be taken to a page of gardens organized by prefecture, city, and then click on the garden name. Once you choose a garden, you are taken to a page of photos; it's like going on a photo tour of the garden.

Also, from the home page you can click on garden elements for photos of those elements from a variety of gardens in Japan. Just click on the photo of water basin, lantern, or walkway; and you are taken to pages of original photo examples of the chosen element from various gardens in Japan. If you are looking for ideas to implement in your own garden or you enjoy appreciating the architecture and beauty of those elements, this is a great resource.

Helpful hint: If you can't read Japanese, use Google chrome to translate the pages into English. The site is easy enough to use that you could probably get by on navigating by photos for the elements, but it may be more difficult to navigate the garden pages without the help of translation (translation of prefecture, city, and garden name).

This is one of the best resources I have found online, I hope you enjoy and find it useful. If you know of a better online resource, then please feel free to share it in a reply, thank you!

Don't let that stop you. You can use Google Chrome to automatically translate the page to English (this would be the preferred method).

If you can't use Google chrome for what ever reason, here is a link to a translated home page using another method via Google Translate:
    http://translate.google.com/transla...rk.geocities.jp/kubokin615/index.html&act=url

    Dry Gardens translated:
    http://translate.google.com/transla...ties.jp/kubokin615/karesannsui.html&sandbox=1

Stroll /pond and moss gardens translated:
    http://translate.google.com/transla...k.geocities.jp/kubokin615/chisen.html&act=url

The garden elements are pretty straight forward, just click on the picture of the lantern to view the lantern gallery, for example.
