Holds its color well into summer. Also great tree for a tight space.

    Hi Krautz

    Great pics, keep posting!
This is the first time I see a sizeable 'Twombly Red Sentinal', mine is still tiny and I was wondering if the columnar habit was really true. It seems it is!

    Re: Twombly Red Sentinal

I bought the tree this size. I am hoping it keeps this form. Spring color is a different kind of red.

Re: Acer palmatum 'Twombly Red Sentinel'

This is a perfect tree for many locations. It's narrow growing habit allows it to be planted in more locations than many of the maples. It has outstanding red color in full sun.

Hi there, first time posting anything. Does anybody know where I can get "Twombly's Red Sentinel" in the lower mainland?

Here is the new Twombly's I added to my garden. It was quite a challenge to get it in it even required the use of my skateboard. I added photos of the second Twombly's I bought. I look forward to getting all of them.

    From Dawes Arboretum:
"Distinctive columnar habit found by Ken Twombley of Twombley's Nursery in CT growing at a church in e. Connecticut."

Acer palmatum 'Twombly's Red Sentinel' - Twombly's Red Sentinel Japanese maple | The Dawes Arboretum
"Comments: A truly novel Japanese maple with distinctive columnar habit found by Ken Twombley of Twombley's Nursery in CT growing at a church in e. Connecticut. New leaves crimson-red, darken to burgundy in summer often giving a two-tone effect. A narrow column to 15' tall and 4-5' wide. Spectacular red fall color and dark red stems provide winter effect. Excellent vertical accent! Sun tolerant but will also take light shade."

13th March 2022 and at last my Twombley's Red Sentinel is underway. It has been a cold start to Spring here in Southern England, but all that is changing this week.

6th June 2022 and my Twombley's Red Sentinel definitely wants to stay close to the ground, but thats OK, as the multiple colours are more easily viewed.

11th May 2023 and my Twombley's Red Sentinel is doing it's best to grow tall. But atm happier near the ground..... it has had a difficult couple of years, so hopefully this year it will really get going.

This is not a Twombly's Red Sentinel as you have mentioned in another post. Stephen Roff whom you bought it from is notoriously known to mislabel some of his trees which he will tell you that they are being sourced from reputable growers...lol

Very nice. Mine had to get cut back close to the ground as it had a dead leader.

They grow quite vigorously, I am sure you'll get a new leader soon.
