These brackets were pretty large and rather attractive looking.
Does anyone know what they are?

Beautiful! Polyporus squamosus. The underside should smell like the rind of a watermelon.

I went back today to get more photos and to smell this cool thing.
I was pleasantly surprised to learn one of it common names is Pheasantback Mushroom.
I keep quail and the first thought that went through my head was how much like a wild bird its colors and pattern is.
    Thanks for the ID!
