Medium shrub with showy pink flowers

    Looks a lot like a begonia. Are you sure it's a shrub?
    A begonia it will have snappy, fleshy branches, not woody.

    Check out Dodonaea viscosa. The pink objects are fruit, not flowers.

    I'm not sure the Dodonea has such pointy leaves

    yes its a shrub not Begonia as the leaves are not fleshy

    good point, Michael.
    But, look at the shape of the leaf in the pic that jaistar12 posted - where the petiole meets the leaf in that off centre way. Classic begonia.
